Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. No Powder without Ice !
This one is dedicated to Lou!
“No powder without Ice!” Like a thunderbolt, this revelation hit me! February 2015 – skiing Silverton Mountain – stats below. This is the creme de la creme of powder skiing. As good as it gets without a helicopter – which you can also get at Silverton. One chair – all guided – base elevation 10,400 and peak 13,487 – from the top you hike – bowls, chutes, cliffs and rocks no frills. Beacon, probe, shovel and pack – required equipment.
I’ve skied here twice before – both times a powder dream – today it SUCKED! Launching from the cornice – ugggh – windpacked crud – turn – arrrgh – blocks of ice – then a powder turn or two – sweet – ayyyiii – solid crunchy shit – wham- bang – crunch ummmph !
No powder without ice Lou!
No happiness without sadness
joy without sorrow
pleasure without pain
light without darkness
and so it goes ….
